Netflix & Chill

After midnight Doubt seeps in though the gaps around my air conditioner

and comes to join me on the couch

Bathed in the mummifying haze of blue electric static

He wraps an arm around my shoulder

tips my head back

and kisses me full of fear.

Questions (27)

There are years that ask questions and years that answer.

— Zora Neale Hurston

Am I beautiful?

Why?

Am I lovable?

How?

Am I loved?

When?

Am I smart

(enough?)

Am I capable

(enough?)

Am I strong

(enough?)

What if.

What if…

What if I am not?

What then?
